“It isn’t possible to quantify the extent to which society and culture are indebted to Bohemia. In every age in every successful country, it has been important that at least a small part of the cityscape is not dominated by bankers, developers, chain stores, generic restaurants, and railway terminals. This little quarter should instead be the preserve of - in no special order - insomniacs and restaurants and bars that never close; bibliophiles and the little stores and stalls that cater to them; alcoholics and addicts and deviants and the proprietors who understand them; aspirant painters and musicians and the modest studios that can accommodate them; ladies of easy virtue and the men who require them; misfits and poets from foreign shores and exiles from remote and cruel dictatorships. Though it should be no disadvantage to be young in such a quartier, the atmosphere should not by any means discourage the veteran.” Christopher Hitchens, Last Call, Bohemia, Vanity Fair

Voting for DC's Quarter Design Underway

After the mint rejected our request to print “Taxation without Representation” on our quarter, we’re down to just 3 designs for the DC quarter: Frederick Douglass, Benjamin Banneker and Duke Ellington.  DC residents can vote on their favorite design through June 18.  It was a no brainer for me - my vote went to Mr. Ellington.

i just received this picture along with 13 others from a photographer who took them when we were chilling near the key bridge a couple of sundays ago.  he was photographing a bride and groom on their wedding day.  i love this shot - one of the photographers in the foreground and the way the trees are lit behind us. i just received this picture along with 13 others from a photographer who took them when we were chilling near the key bridge a couple of sundays ago.  he was photographing a bride and groom on their wedding day.  i love this shot - one of the photographers in the foreground and the way the trees are lit behind us.

“Greatness is always built on this foundation: the ability to appear, speak and act, like the most common man.” Shams-ud-din Muhammed Hafiz as quoted in Three Cups of Tea

Adam, Scott, Julie and I got our portraits done by 4traits last night at Art-o-Matic. This portrait was completed in 40 minutes by 4 artists. The concept is very cool - four people sit across a table from four artists. The artist works on the person (subject) across from them for 10 minutes and then the subject moves on to the next artist for 10 minutes and so on and so forth. The art show itself was also pretty incredible - unjuried with works from over 1000 artists in a huge warehouse in NE DC. David’s work is on display on the 4th floor.
